Water car engine by Toyota

Toyota has believed in the vision of a hydrogen-powered future for a very long time. While EVs have been given all the press in recent times, it's important to remember that electrified vehicles are actually old technology, not new. Hydrogen is a true step forward in auto-tech, and Toyota has been the spearhead of that development.
The Mirai Has Been In Production For Almost A Decade
- Toyota has had a production hydrogen car on the road since 2016 in its Mirai.
- The Mirai has sold over 21,000 copies worldwide through 2022.
- The Mirai uses fuel cell technology, with hydrogen powering an electric motor, rather than a combustion engine like the new prototype.
- There are no plans to sunset the Mirai as a developer.

Toyota has had confidence in hydrogen for a long time. While the fuel infrastructure is not massively widespread yet, Toyota knows having road-going hydrogen vehicles in the public eye is the best thing to ensure the technology can gain relevance and popularity.
